Dear Classes of 1957, 1958, 1960, 1962 and 1964:

This is a Deacon Alert to inform you of the passing of Edward Fitzgerald ('57) on Tuesday, Dec. 10th.

Ed was a member of the Class of 1957 and the brother of Helen-Jeanne (Fitzgerald) Puvogel ('58), Phil Fitzgerald ('60), Kathy (Fitzgerald) Camp ('62) and the late John Fitzgerald ('64).

Edward Louis Fitzgerald, 80, died December 10, 2019 at his home in Fargo. He was born July 16, 1939 to Eugene and Helen Fitzgerald in Fargo and was the oldest of five siblings. He graduated from Shanley High School in 1957 and later attended North Dakota State University. Ed joined the United States Air Force and served his country for 4 years.

In 1971, he married Ferne Kramlich and became stepdad to six children. They resided in Fargo until Ferne passed away in 1999.

Ed worked at KXJB for 30 years and later worked at Leef Brothers until he retired. Not liking being idle, he began working at the Fargo Dome when it first opened in 1992 and continued his employment there until his death. He was the first face that athletes or performers would see when they walked into the Fargo Dome and had lots of stories regarding the performers he had met over the years. He also worked at Newman Outdoor Field for the FM RedHawks during the season.

Ed was an avid golfer, winning numerous tournaments himself, but also enjoyed attending the Masters Golf Tournament. He was a huge NDSU Bison football fan, and up until his death, only ever missed one game, and only then to attend his granddaughter’s wedding, which he loved to tease her about.

Ed loved sports, and there wasn’t much he didn’t know about a team. He was a Minnesota Vikings and New York Yankees fan. When the Yankees would play the Minnesota Twins in the cities, he, his sister, Helen-Jeanne, and his brother John, would always go watch them.

In 2018, he took part in the Veterans Memorial Flight, and felt extremely honored to have been extended the opportunity to do so.

Ed is survived by his children, Jean Arechigo, Moorhead, Mary Lou (Joseph) Turk, Arizona, Joanne (William) Fraase, Fargo, Wayne (Nancy) Kramlich, Susan (Evan) Klingman, Fargo, Brother, Phil (Donna), Fargo, Sisters Helen-Jeanne Puvogel, Fargo and Kathy (Herb) Camp, Georgia, 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Ferne, parents Eugene and Helen, brother John, daughter Janet, granddaughter Shawna and son-in-law Raymond.

Visitation is Sunday, December 15, 2019 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. and prayer service at 2:00 p.m. at Boulger Funeral Home.

The funeral is Monday, December 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., with a one-hour visitation prior to the service at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1420 7th St N, Fargo. The family would like everyone to wear their Bison gear, or any sports apparel.
