Stephen Palmer

Dear Class of 1985:

This is a Deacon Alert to inform you of the passing of Stephen Palmer on Thursday, April 30th.

Stephen was the father of Lori (Palmer) Kragero and Steve Palmer, Jr. ('85).

Stephen R. Palmer Sr. 80, of Moorhead, MN passed away peacefully Thursday, April 30, 2020 at Lilac Homes Memory Care.

Steve was born March 1, 1940 in Fargo ND to Edwin & Gladys (Denenny) Palmer. He grew up in Casselton, ND. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1961. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W Post 1223 and was also a member of the American Legion Post 21 in Moorhead.

He attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, where he met Pat and they were married in 1963 and made their home in Moorhead. They were blessed with two children Lori (Terry Kragero, Sr.) and Tygr (Karla); 5 grandchildren: Terry Jr, Jess, Dustin, Jordan, Tylar and 7 great grandchildren: Jayden and Lily, Rex, Piper and Sage, Isabella and Brealyn.

Steve was a man of his word, a hard worker with great work ethic and took pride in his field of work as a Master Glazer at Dakota Plate Glass Co. for 23 years. In 1983, Steve and his brothers purchased Mick’s Office in Moorhead. Also known as Palmer, he had the uncanny gift of “gab” and the ability to BS with anyone he came into contact with. Plus, there was always a great story to be told! He always tried to make people feel good and get them to smile. After 20 years in business, they sold the bar in 2003 and he retired.

His favorite pastimes were a toss up between hunting with his son and grandchildren and golfing with family, which always took more than four hours for a round because he could never pass up looking for golf balls. Hundreds were found throughout the years, which he would donate to Jr. Golf (sometimes cleaned, sometimes not 🙂 Throughout life, he really had a true love of all sports whether he was playing or watching them. The Fighting Irish was his favorite team! Back in the 90’s, he was able to attend a football game, tour and stay on campus with a close friend who was a former alumnus of Notre Dame. He lived life full each day and always made sure to take the time to have some fun no matter what he was doing.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral for the last 20 years and recently one could find him praying the rosary and attending daily Mass with Pat.

He has touched so many people’s lives throughout his lifetime and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters-in-law: Shirley, Charyl, Ruth, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Ann Palmer, brothers: Denny, Rick, Tim and sister-in-law LaRae. Special Thanks to the amazing and wonderful staff at Lilac Homes Memory Care and Hospice of the Red River Valley for the excellent care, love, and support. We Thank You!

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at St. Mary’s Cathedral, with visitation starting at 9: 00.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo. To sign the online guestbook, go to
