FARGO — The Fargo Shanley community is rallying around one of its former students following an apparent golf cart accident over the weekend.
Former Deacons multisport standout Boden Meier was hospitalized in Omaha, Nebraska, early Sunday morning, May 11, after allegedly suffering a fall from the back of a golf cart Saturday night.
Meier is in his freshman season with the Iowa Western Community College baseball team in Council Bluffs. The 2024 Shanley graduate played baseball, football and hockey in high school and was also a pitcher for the Fargo Post 2 American Legion program.

According to the initial update provided by the family Sunday, doctors discovered that Meier had suffered a brain bleed on the right side of his brain and was taken into emergency surgery to successfully repair the bleed.
Further evaluation found that Meier had suffered a skull fracture and an additional bleed between the lobes of the brain in the sinus area. Doctors also stabilized that bleed, which was said to be in a "rare and delicate area."
The latest update provided Monday evening said Meier remains on a ventilator and an MRI is scheduled for later this week.
"Our family is overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we’ve received," the initial update read. "Please continue to keep Boden in your thoughts and prayers during this crucial time."
A prayer service was held for Meier at Sts. Anne & Joachim Catholic Church in Fargo on Sunday and again at the Shanley High Chapel on Monday.
The Shanley baseball team also held a moment of prayer during its contest against Grand Forks Red River Monday.
Meier won three high school state championships in all three sports he played. As a wide receiver/defensive end for the Shanley football team, Meier helped the Deacons to the North Dakota Class 11AA (now Division AAA) state championship in 2022.
Months later, Meier manned the blue line as a member of the Fargo South/Shanley hockey team that won the state title in February 2023.

He finished off his senior year with a state championship on the diamond with the Deacons as a pitcher and outfielder last June.
Meier was also a member of the Fargo Post 2 team that won the Class AA American Legion state title in 2023 and advanced to last year's American Legion World Series.
He accomplished it all with his twin brother, Landon, who also graduated from Shanley and is currently a safety for the North Dakota State football team.
Meier committed to Iowa Western baseball in 2023. The Reivers compete in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Meier has made nine appearances on the mound for IWCC this season, recording six strikeouts. The team is coming off a win in the NJCAA Region 11 championship series on Friday, May 9, and is next scheduled to play in the Midwest District Tournament on Wednesday, May 14.
