This is a Deacon Alert to inform you of the passing of Eugene D. Bannerman on Friday, June 27th.

Gene was the husband of the late Carol (McConnell) Bannerman ('57), and the father of Jerry Bannerman ('80), Julie (Bannerman) Roberts ('81), Janeal (Bannerman) Grosinger ('83), and Jeryl Lynn (Bannerman) Stein ('84).

Obituary:

Eugene Bannerman of Fargo, ND passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the age of 85.

Eugene was born on August 1, 1939, in Hillsboro, ND, the son of Harold and Clara (Kritzberger) Bannerman.

As a young boy, Gene moved with his parents to a farm south of Moorhead, MN, where he grew up. He attended Moorhead Campus School. He enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard in 1956, demonstrating his commitment to his country and his community. On May 6, 1961, Gene was united in marriage to Carol McConnell in Fargo, ND.

Gene dedicated 38 years of his professional life to Robert Gibb and Sons and retired from sheet metal, heating and air conditioning department.

Gene was active with the Boy Scouts as Assistant Scout Master with Holy Spirit Troop 203. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th degree and was on the Cardinal Muench degree team.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, the Newman Center, Blessed Sacrament, and Church of the Nativity. He was also a member of Resurrection Church in Alamo, TX.

Gene enjoyed woodworking, golfing, gardening, and hunting. For six years, Gene worked as an usher for the FM RedHawks. He loved all kinds of sports, and his favorite teams were the MN Vikings and MN Twins.

After retiring, Gene and Carol spent their winter months in Alamo. They liked it so much that they moved there permanently in June of 2005. In July of 2015 they returned to Fargo, residing at One Oak Place, Edgewood Vista, and St. Catherine’s South.

Gene is survived by his children, Jerry (Cindy) Bannerman of Saint Michael, MN, Julie (Russell) Roberts of West Fargo, ND, Janeal Grosinger of Bellevue, WA, and Jeryl Lynn (Wesley) Stein of Pierre, SD; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard (Frances) Bannerman of Moorhead, MN, and Arthur Bannerman of Edina, MN.

Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Carol; parents; and brothers, Donald and Howard; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Bannerman, Pattie Bannerman, and Margaret Bannerman.

The prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, ND, with visitation beginning at 5:00 PM.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Nativity Catholic Church in Fargo, ND, with visitation one hour prior.

Burial will take place at Holy Cross North Cemetery in Fargo, ND.
