Obituary:

Greg passed away on March 25, 2025, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Greg was born on September 19,1950, the son of Dorothy Ann (Nielsen) and James “Art” Nordbeck in Fargo, ND. He graduated from Fargo South High School and attended North Dakota State University.

Greg started out working for his father’s construction company building homes and apartments around the Fargo area at a very young age. His love for building things blossomed from there.

Greg met his future wife, Suzanne Wittmer, in September of 1969. They were united in marriage at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN, on November 26, 1971. They welcomed two daughters – Jennifer and Lisa.

A majority of his career was spent working for John T. Jones Construction building waste-water treatment facilities all over the country. Greg earned his greatest title of “Papa” in April of 1999, with the birth of his first grandchild Morgan Ann, followed by Kennedy, and twin grandsons, Jackson and Ethan. Nothing was more exciting for Greg than spending time with them and watching them do whatever it is they were doing.

After his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2011, Greg continued to work for different companies until he decided he was done. In his retirement, Greg enjoyed fishing, golfing, and basically anything he thought Parkinson’s would rob him of later. He was very competitive in all he did – including his fishing and golfing, but also in tennis and bowling. Some of his best memories consist of Saturday mornings at Red River Lanes Bowling Alley and Lakeside golf course in Perham. He spent many hours driving his father around the lakes area looking at life and finding treasures on the side of the road.

Greg never met a tool that wasn’t his, never missed a chance to make others laugh, never took things too seriously, never let anyone tell him what he needed to do and always made his family watch ridiculous movies on Saturday mornings.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James and Cameron; and in-laws Herbert and RoseMarie Wittmer, and Douglas Wittmer.

Greg is survived by his wife of 53 years Suzanne, his daughters, Jennifer (Kelly) Koble and Lisa (Joel) Nierode; his grandchildren – Morgan Ann and Kennedy Koble, and Jackson and Ethan Nierode. Also surviving are his sisters, Roxanne (Jeff) Hunter and KrisAnn (Kevin) Tjaden; and the extra brother, Daniel (Shirley) Owens; his in-laws, Mary Nordbeck, Mary (Jim) Gravalin, and David (Dori) Wittmer; his 13 nieces and nephews; and not to forget his cats – Phil and Cheeto.
